Fanboys (Opening Feburary 6th)

Fanboys is an upcoming film with the current storyline being that a group of Star Wars fans find out that one of them is dying of cancer in the October before the release of "Star Wars: Episode I" and that he won't live to see the premier of the highly anticipated film, so these friends decide to sneak a showing of it at Skywalker Ranch, home of George Lucas, before they're friend passes away. The original version of the film is done and was shown to some select groups, including this person who said "I had the honour of attending the Fanboys rough cut screening at Celebration Europe. It was a unique movie experience, with spontaneous cheering and applause throughout, capped with a double standing ovation. It was unlike any previous film screening I’d attended, and was a highlight amongst a weekend of highlights." It looked like a funny movie that celebrated Star Wars Fandom, but "Hard to see the Dark Side is."


About a month ago StarWars.com did a poll asking "Have you been following the Production of Fanboys?"
76% said "Yes, and I'm Pretty Concerned"
2% said "Yes but i am not Concerned"
and 22% said "No i have not."
I was one of those "No i have not" but the large percent of "Yes, and I'm Pretty Concerned" Got me wondering whats up. Well i found out today. It turns out that the Weinstein Company, makers of the Scary Movie Series, Epic Movie, and other Spoof Movies, has taken over the post-production of the movie, and is turning it from a celebration of Fandom, to a Spoof of Fandom, which is making several fans very angry. They are taking out the cancer story line, because they feel that it is "Offensive" (That coming from the people who offended just about every movie maker in Hollywood with they're assorted films?) which according to another Uncut version viewer "If they go with the non-cancer version, it’ll be just another film to reside in the Meet The Spartans/Scary Movie/ Epic Movie dustbin. The film without the MAIN DRIVING FORCE behind the story and it’s characters will be simply so shallow there won’t be enough to make a puddle. This film had a heart as big as a bucket and was funny...to boot. I’m not going and I sure...ain’t paying for a version that makes the characters appear selfish shallow and without soul."
But as with all things making fun of Star Wars Fans, The Fans have a way to strike back. The site linked to the picture below suggests the following
Here's how you can help Stop Darth Weinstein and Save Fanboys:

-We are organizing Stop Darth Weinstein Protests in New York and Los Angeles on March 28th, outside two prominent movie theaters where Superhero Movie will be opening. Watch this page for the exact times and locations. We need as many Star Wars fans as possible to attend! Members of the local and national press will be there to cover these protests and alert the entire world of our cause! If you live in LA or NYC and are willing to take part in these protests, please email us!

-Tell everyone you know not to see Superhero Movie! Especially on its opening weekend! And don't rent/buy/watch any film that bears the Weinstein Company/Dimension Films logo!

I Personally am Pretty upset about it bc it looked like a great movie from what i heard about it, and I for one am doing two of those three things, simply bc i am not near New York or LA to protest.

It is upsetting that they are not including the fan with cancer storyline. George Lucas & Company were kind enough to open their doors to select Star Wars fans prior to being released, and I'm sure everyone was / is ok with that. It's a token of appreciation for the many fans out there that are keeping George in business...

The scary movies are funny, but they're supposed to make fun of movies / movie genres in general. There are some great films that have been 'spoofed,' but if you look at the big picture - the directors / actors ain't doing these movies to win any major awards (at least I hope not). They're just a couple of hours of light-hearted fun.

I'm ok with someone spoofing the Star Wars / sci-fi genre in general, but don't mess with the fans.

A semi-sweet update here. The Weinstein Company has confirmed that both the "cancer-induced" and "cancer-free" versions of Fanboys will be available, most likely through special editions of the DVD, and they are considering putting the original version that the fans like in the theaters. Why the sudden change of heart? Because over 300,000 E-mails have been sent to them Demanding the Cancer Story Line! Also, "Superhero Movie" released with very low ratings, though the film probably was bad anyways and ppl didn't want to see it, but i am sure the Star Wars Fans had something to do with it so We have won a battle, let's Win the War!!!

Glad to hear that fans were listened to and something was done about it...

A DVD containing both versions will be interesting to watch.

I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that the film will FINALLY be released on Feburary 6th!

The Bad news is that it will only be in 8 towns. You didn't read it wrong, it's not a typo 8, eight, 1 more than 7, 1 less than 9. The lucky cities are:

That's it..... Rackle frackle Darth Weinstein... So Enjoy if you live in the vicinity! If not, there is currently NO released plans for expansion. We might have to wait until the VHS comes out (darthstich: oh wait not a lot of people use VHS anymore Darth Weinstein: Exactly MUAHAHA) Any further news regarding Fanboys expansion will be posted immediately

Well for those of you that Read my Article in the latest 'Endor Express' i received info from the Weinstein company saying "We are taking all requests into consideration." It looks like a few more fans have been sending letters bc it was announced today that on February 20th Fanboys is expanding to 10 more cities, including Orlando!! The cities are
